ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

As mentioned at the beginning, this idea, which began as a concern, grew and gained strength over the years. From an initial question – “How can we balance the benefits of technology without neglecting mental health?” – came the need for action. Each study, each conversation and each consultation showed me that the impact of the Digital Age goes far beyond what we can see on the surface. It was necessary to do more than just warn about the risks; it was necessary to create real paths for transformation.

This is how the Mentis Digitalis Institute stopped being just a dream and became a reality. A space for connection, acceptance and education, where scientific knowledge meets practice and where each person can rediscover the balance between the virtual and real worlds and which , like everything that goes through modernity, will also continue to be constantly developed and built to achieve its great goals.

As a psychologist, I have always been fascinated by the complexities of human behavior and the ways in which we adapt to changes around us. Eager for knowledge, I completed three consecutive postgraduate courses (clinical neuropsychology, hospital psychology and educational guidance) in areas in which I worked and was able to observe up close the profound impacts that the external environment – including the digital environment – has on the human psyche.

My clinical and academic journey has always been driven by a passion for mental health , which soon led me to investigate topics that seemed little explored.

More than six years ago , I decided to delve deeply into the topic of digital addictions . It was not an easy path, but it was transformative. During this journey, I left the Scientific Initiation program at the Stress Research Laboratory (LINPES), at the Institute of Psychiatry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and pursued my academic career in the Master's degree in Mental Health at another Laboratory, Delete (IPUB/UFRJ), a pioneer in academic studies in Brazil on the impacts of the use of technologies on mental health, where I continue to develop and work as a collaborating psychologist. During this journey , I was invited to co-author the books "New Humans 2030: How will humanity be living with digital technologies?" (2018) and "Beware of Nomophobia! Wonders and harms in interactivity with the digital world" (2023).

Over time, I realized that my mission went beyond the office . I wanted my experience to be accessible to more people, in different contexts – schools, companies, families. Thus, the Mentis Digitalis Institute was born, a space that reflects everything I believe: that digital education is urgent, that mental health must be protected and that together we can build a future where the digital world is a healthy extension, not an overload.

This story continues with you. Whether through lectures, clinical care or consulting, each action of Mentis Digitalis is built with the purpose of making a difference. After all, technology is part of the future, but balance is what makes us truly human.
